Hey everyone. As MattMatt has made a load remover that works for PC speedruns of Death Stranding, runs will now be sorted by IGT which is the full length of the run, without any loads. You can get this time by activating the load remover in livesplit.

To preserve all runs done before this load remover, I have changed the IGT of all runs on the PC boards to be the same as the RTA time. For any future runs that you may submit, please use the load remover and submit that time under 'IGT', and the full length of the run from start to end (including loads) under 'Time'.

This also means that we won't use the game's in game time that it gives you after having completed the game, since it wasn't accurate anyway, and this new load remover will remove the advantage that some runners may gain from having a better PC.

If you have any questions about this change feel free to message me.

hey every1 i updated the rules so time starts after the black screen when you skip the cutscene (when the gameplay part starts) and ends when the screen turns grey upon death

DenmarkHess2 years ago

Hey everyone! I've changed the timing of chapter runs so they now start when you gain control of Arthur/John after you skip the first cutscene. This is so chapters from full speedruns can also be submitted to the Chapters section. For chapter 3 & 5 the time starts when "The New South" or "Welcome To The New World" text appears. (Or when you gain control if you start with another mission in chapter 3)

I've also changed it so chapter 4 now ends after having skipped the cutscene where Dutch and the others goes on board the ship, instead of the chapter 5 text on Guarma.

Hey everyone, just so you know I've updated the timing on Outlaws From The West so it now starts after you gain control of Arthur. This is so everyone is on an equal playing field in terms of loads. I'll retime the runs for the IL soon

Hey I have an issue with a run I verified. I verified it as 12.733 seconds yet it doesn't show up on the leaderboards. Instead his earlier run which is verified as 13 seconds shows up. When you click on that run it says it's obsolete but for some reason the new run hasn't taken it's place. The run in question: https://www.speedrun.com/rdr2/run/zgvowr0z

Hey i think it would be pretty cool if there was a way to have your own little notepad thing on this site. i tend to write a lot of notes about speedrun-related stuff, future speedprojects etc. Would be pretty cool if you could do that on the site instead of on paper or on your pc. Just to have your speedrun notes the same place as your speedruns.

i used to play an online browser game where this was an option and i think it would be a pretty neat addition to this site. of course i don't know much about the technical side of things, but if it doesn't take up too much time or server power then i think it would be a cool feature. You could even choose to have an option between making it private/public, so if you choose to make it public you can let other people see what speedrun related stuff you're thinking about.

Hey, i just want to hear other's opinions on this. I submitted FPS Mario to speedrun.com (any%), my time was 16 seconds. It got rejected for being too short??? First of all there's a bunch of faster/shorter speedruns on the site, like dragster, but why is it a bad thing that a speedrun is fast? Shouldn't that be a good thing? I've resubmitted saying that there'd also be longer categories like 100%, all coins, all enemies, etc. Maybe i'm in the wrong, so i'd like to hear other people's opinions on this, but I don't get why they feel the need to regulate speedruns in terms of what they deem fitting for the site? This game is literally build with an ingame timer and stuff, it's a speedgame, no matter how fast it is. Hope yall don't find any fast wrong warps or something, because then your speedrun might be too fast for what speedrun.com likes.

also please i'm just voicing my opinion, please don't ban me

hey apparently any% is supposed to be played in offline mode. this is understandable, but i would suggest making a category for both off- and online mode and in my personal opinion online mode should be the "main" category considering how the 'strand' concept is so core to death stranding. anyway, rules are looking cool, gonna be interesting so see runs for this game!

Hey, I'm super excited to see this game on speedrun.com now! I have been checking new game releases each day to see when this would be added.

I'm just curious if anyone have been thinking about how runs would be for this game, and given the 'social strand system', would there be a category for offline and online play? I think a category with the social strand thing would be super interesting since it's very rng dependent so if you're lucky you'll get a super big timesave if you find a motorbike early or smth. anyways hope there are other excited runners for this game although the runs will probably be kinda long

Hey I'm really curious if anyone else have thought about Death Stranding as a speed game? Personally I'm super excited for the game despite many players shrugging it off as a "walking simulator". That's definitely not the case if you look at the different teasers and gameplay shown there's so much more to the game other than just walking around (action scenes, boss fights, cool cinematics, huge open world, fun casual stuff in the safe room etc.)

The thing that I find super interesting about the game is the 'strand' element - basically other players can leave stuff behind in the world that you can interact with or pick up. Kojima calls this a totally new game genre where you can interact indirectly with other players, and I think it's gonna have super cool merit in speedruns too! It will make for some super interesting speedruns since you kinda have to improvise on the spot if you find useful items on the ground or a motorbike etc.

Anyway, I just wanted to hear other people's thoughts on Death Stranding, possibly as a potential speedgame, although I reckon a lot of people won't run it since it will probably have a super long runtime. (personally i have gotten used to that though after speedrunning RDR2) But I really think this will be interesting and I imagine the game would be split into an offline and online category, where you in the offline category have a consistent route but in the online category need to improvise and adapt to whatever items, objects or vehicles you find along your journey.

EDIT: i'm curious if anyone else have thought about running this/adding this to speedrun.com? I've seen some people add unreleased games, does anyone know how do that because I definitely want to submit this game if no one else wants to. :P

Hey! Have you routed the best options to take in each chapter/fastest dialogue choices? Also what is faster between console/pc?

DenmarkHess4 years ago

Since you don't need any video evidence, isn't it very easy to cheat and create a fictional time in photoshop? Or maybe there's some way to look up on mineplex, whether or not that time actually happened?

Hey I'm just curious why the ILs for mining emerald and diamond allow the player to pick up the ore after it being exploded by a creeper. In my head, the rule clearly states that you have to mine the ore, presumably with some sort of pickaxe. But the runs skip this stage and just pick it up after a creeper has exploded it, and there's a big difference between these two things since in the first scenario you mine it and then pick it up, and in the second scenario the creeper happens to explode it and then you pick it up afterwards; you haven't mined the emerald/diamond. Now I still think the runs are cool and it's a creative idea, but my idea is that you either add the creeper runs to "obtain an emerald/diamond" since that's what you did; you obtained it but you didn't mine it. That's one solution. You could also make a sub category for these runs, or you could make a clearer/more definitive definition of the run, to avoid any confusion. but this is all just me being curious, and it's really just an idea so don't take it too personally. I would love to discuss it.

Hey, have you considered a mariothon category? You could have a subcategory for each cup

DenmarkHess5 years ago

Hey, have you guys thoughtabout a speedrun category where you can't KO your opponent. This would lead to more real tennis matches and though i do like the concept of KO'ing in the any% category I wouldn't mind seeing a category where the objective was to play good tennis and maybe get lucky with how your opponents play etc. :)

Hi! I recently became a moderator in the game 'The Contact Machine', and I verified my run. It shows up under the leaderboard for the game, but not under the runs on my profile. It's probably my fault, but does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!
