Nothing happened, I was taking a first look since the mod that was taking on 100% run submissions is currently not able to and mistook them for SCM runs and rejected them for missing information and asked for a resubmission. I realized very soon though that it's No SCM and revoked the reject, so the state is unchanged, i will check the runs now soon.

Generally about this threat I hope this pointless and unwarranted witch hunt stops now. Ptown, you were given time after time more slack. You've cheated, stretched the rules multiple times, ignored the rules multiple times and every time a mod tries to ask you about information for one of your submissions you're as unsupportive as you could possible be. Other boards would have long banned you from submitting, heaven knows why we didn't so far but you're on thin ice so I suggest you calm down, do your runs and if you want to submit follow the rules like everyone else does.

Discussion is always welcome but the cries for another change are unnecessary for now. People argued for turbo, wanted a change, multiple times now in the last years. We had 2 votes about it that were in a very slight advantage of turbo but we didn't change it since imo a change needs a clear majority vote and every time we had complains from the other side in a sense of "majority wants it, why no implement?" that we had to explain too. Now was another outcry for it, we had another vote and it was a clear advantage for turbo this time, people wanted a change and we changed it. Now it's the non-turbo people that complain, obviously, despite being in a very clear minority right now.

Turbo is new now, it's there and it won't go for at least a while. Just like turbo came it can go if people feel like it was a bad idea and they'd rather mash again but we can talk about that in a few months, when people were able to try it for a while, run with it and make experiences. There is no problem separating turbo runs from non-turbo ones into another board if that is what people want then.

As said, you're more than welcome to share your opinion and experience on the matter but please be civilized and refrain from being overly aggressive in tone and don't try to "disprove peoples arguments", you can't disprove personal opinions and experiences.

My suggestion is to at least try it. Set up proper turbo for PC, try a few runs and see how it feels. Share then your experience and feedback about it and see what others say and after a while, as said, we can have another discussion about it and see how it went.

We don't have much data yet about differences between PS4 and PS5 but for now you can submit PS5 runs to the "Modern Consoles" category.

Agreed, as said I'll add it as son as I find some time for it.

Hi guys. Over the last months a number of people have voiced their opinion on turbo for our FF7 speedruns and the discussions internally grew. There are strong arguments for both options and we're at a point where we would like to discuss and vote publicly about allowing it on the boards. We want to gather especially the opinion of FF7 runners and people with a connection to the community but even if you're not interested in the game or run it we'd like to hear your opinion on the subject. Votes will be open until February 9th 2020 and if results and feedback turns out positively we'd merge the existing turbo categories into the regular ones and allow turbo controllers and functions for future FF7 speedruns.

i don't see the point, it's a completely optional character and side quest anyway. a faster skip would be to just not do it.

ValhallaZheal4 years ago

You can play the discs on either and it's all PSX category and legit. The difference is only how fast your game runs. PAL runs slower than NTSC and playing it on PS3 or fat PS2 is also slower than using a slim PS2 with fast disc speed.

You should not mix up general interest in watching a category with the need of a leaderboard. Mountain climbing is hard to do and has many fans but it has no board that tries to compare them because that would be silly. 100% might not have a leaderboard right now anymore but that doesn't mean it won't have one forever, times will change. Biggest problem is the definition of 100% in a game like FF7. If people would agree to one it would probably get its leaderboard but there are like 1-2 who run the definition kynos did back then but there are others who don't like that one and changed it up a bit to make it more runnable or created their entire own definitions. There has been discussions about that before but you know how that is in the speedrun community, discussions often end very sudden without any conclusion. It's an never ending argument between people who want it "True 100%" and people who want it shorter and more comparable

I can't speak for any other leaderboard you listed, they probably have their own reasons

You said it yourself, rules are hard to define to make it competitive and general interest was very low. A leaderboard is just a tool to compare times of runners to form a competition. 100% in FF7 never had an elaborated route, nor a lot of runners and the nature of the category has so much RNG that a fair comparison is almost impossible.

But just because there is no leaderboard for a category doesn't mean you can't run it. People are free to speedrun whatever game in whatever way they want.

Playing a single player turn based RPG co-op as a speedrun is not much more "meme-y" than "Unlock Bunyan's Ultimate Skill%". Leaderboards are not "Honorable Mentions" they're a tool to compare the PB's of multiple people in a competitive nature. A leaderboard for one or two people makes not much sense, there is not much to compare. Ofc BoF3 has some leaderboards that only have one or two runners but those only exist because they're legit main-categories like any% and 100% just on other platforms and localizations.

That being said, don't get discouraged by the fact that this may not get a leaderboard, have fun with your run and definitely keep us updated on the BoF3 discord. I, and I am sure other people too, would love to see a nice co-op run.

A leaderboard is not for personal challenges. If you define a good ruleset and you get more people interested into running BoF3 co-op(that's the important part) there'll be no problem in creating a category.

also always start attempts from a hard reset. some ram values, for example some of the steproute, don't reset properly without it.

Wait Tricking is basically having the ATB option in your settings on "Wait". In battle, as soon as you enter any of the sub menus(targeting also works), neither your parties nor the enemies ATB bars will fill and on top of the bars it will be written "Wait". You can abuse this to stop the enemies ATB bar while your own characters perform actions so you can chain more actions in before the enemy gets another turn.
